The limits set forth by ESIA effectively ban the use of C light sources. Incandescent lamps produce light below the efficacy limit of approximately 21 lumens/W. No longer can you purchase the traditional 100-W incandescent general application light bulb at all retail locations. The United States Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) of 2007 began to take effect in January 2012. A better approach is to work with the limitations of the TRIAC-based dimmers (leading-edge) and trailing-edge dimmers without dissipating needless power. This weakens the reasons for using LEDs in lighting by decreasing efficacy and lifetime. Typically, LED lighting applications try to emulate incandescent lamps by dissipating power to satisfy leading-edge dimmers. There is wide installation of a variety of dimmers for traditional incandescent lighting, so LED-based light lamps and luminaries must be compatible with these dimmers. Dimmable lighting applications in residential and commercial installations will account for over 50% of all lamps and luminaires by 2015. Using LEDs for lighting is an ever-more-popular application because of its high efficacy and long life. Lighting control with traditional TRIAC need not cut efficiency
